Feature Interiors – Small Business Spotlight

This #SmallBusinessSpotlight is with Antony Nixon from Feature Interiors.

Please introduce yourself and your business.

My career began as an apprentice carpet fitter and floor-layer working for local companies.

I then set up my own business – doing everything from sales through to fitting myself.

After about 10 years I took the next step and set up Feature Interiors. This allowed me to create my own showroom here in Milnsbridge.

I work alongside Axis Flooring who focus on commercial flooring whilst I look after the domestic side.

There’s a team behind me to help with the fitting as well as running the showroom. This frees me up so I visit clients and help turn their ideas into reality.

How does your business stand out from the competition?

I aim to provide the best possible customer service. I want all my customers to feel satisfied with our service.

As a local small business, I believe we can offer a personal service which our larger competitors are unable to.

What do you enjoy most about your business?

I really enjoy being able to make a difference.

There’s a real satisfaction from seeing every stage of a project completed. From the customer’s initial idea, the suggestions we make, finishing the work and then receiving the customer’s feedback. It’s a great feeling to receive a positive review or a referral.

How do you promote your business online and how effective is it?

Feature Interiors has its own Facebook page. I’d have to say that much of my work comes via Facebook.

I’ve received tremendous support from Perfect People members recommending me to their friends, family and neighbours on Facebook. This has worked really well in local Facebook groups and I’m keen to tap into other areas around Huddersfield.

I also have a website which I’m keen to grow and develop further. And I’ve recently begun to use Instagram too.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your business right now?

The biggest challenge is time. With a team working for me I have to keep on top of the quotes and sales so they’re able to continue helping customers.

I’ve recently invested in a CRM tool to help me to keep track of individual customer orders. I also plan to train other members of the team to help with customers’ measurements.

Where do you see your business in five years time?

My goal is to take the business to the next level. I’d like to offer franchises and expand the brand to other branches across the area.

How do you spend your relaxation or downtime?

I enjoy travelling and visiting new places, especially in warmer climates!

My wife and I have visited Mexico as well as Paris. We’re looking forward to visiting Barcelona later this year.
